The Project Global Citizen movement creates a foundation for global citizenship with cultural competence. We deliver cultural competency programs to make students employable anywhere in the world.

Project Global Citizen is a partnership between two of Australia’s leading intercultural practitioners, Craig Shim (Alphacrane Intercultural Specialists) and Astrid Hofmann (CTC, Cultural Transition Consulting).

• Late submissions may be considered, but fully subsidised student placements are limited, and our programs fill up quickly. So please submit your EOI as soon as possible.

Yes, for schools in Victoria and schools located outside of Australia.

• 2023 programs are fully subsidised for eligible schools through a co-funding arrangement between Project Global Citizen and the Victorian State Government’s Globally Engaged Learners (GELs) program.
• However, fully subsidised student placements are limited, and our programs fill up quickly. So please submit your Expression of Interest as soon as possible.

This program is fully subsidised for 2023, thanks to our partnership with the Victorian Government's Department of Education.

There is no cost for eligible schools in Victoria and the Asia Pacific region. See eligibility criteria in the section below.

To be eligible for fully funded placements into our 2023 programs, your school must:

• Be located in Victoria (Australia), or anywhere outside of Australia. Note: Australian schools located outside of Victoria are currently ineligible to participate due to our co-funding agreement with the Victorian Government. However, please contact us using the yellow form below if you would like to discuss other funding arrangements in your state or territory.
• Have students in Years 10 to 12 (or equivalent).
• Be located in a similar time zone to Australia, i.e. within the Asia Pacific region.
• All participating students and their supervising teachers must have a basic understanding of English because our programs and course materials are in English (global business English).
• Commit to filling all the student spots allocated to your school if your Expression of Interest to participate is successful.

Step 1. Complete and submit the Expression of Interest Submission form on behalf of your school by clicking the “Register Now” button below.

Step 2. Within 3 to 5 days, we will contact you via email to confirm:

• Whether your school is accepted into the program.
• Which programs your school can participate in, i.e. The Project Global Citizen Bootcamp and/or The Project Global Citizen 4-Week Challenge. 
• How many student spots have been allocated to your school per program.
• The cohort names of the program(s) your school will be joining.
• The dates and times for each cohort assigned to your school.

In this email, we will request for the names and email addresses of each supervising teacher for each cohort allocated to your school.

Step 3. Once you supply us with the names and email addresses of each supervising teacher, we will email each supervising teacher an email invitation template you can edit and forward to the students you wish to invite into the program(s). The email will contain:

• Individual, single-use coupons so your students can self-register into the program for free. Note: You also have the option of finalising the registration process yourself on behalf of your students.
• Onboarding instructions so your students know what to expect once the program commences.
• Zoom meeting login details.
• Participation and Privacy Consent forms (for Australian schools) which you are responsible for getting signed by your students’ parents or guardian.

Note: For privacy and data security reasons, we do not need, and do not want any personal information about the students you register into our programs. All we require is de-identified information about the number of students for each program from your school. When a student self-registers into our online learning platform, the only information we require is their first name and email address. We will protect and treat this information with the strictest confidence, then destroy this data upon completion of the program.

Once you submit your online Expression of Interest (EOI), we usually take 3 to 5 days to confirm your school’s participation.

You will then need to arrange for your students to self-register into the approved program(s), which is a quick online process with instant confirmation.

• Term 4 programs for 2023 are held during the post-exam period, from end November to mid December.

You may wish to allocate different supervising teachers for different programs or have one teacher supervising all programs. Students must be supervised at all times by a teacher.

The requirements for supervising teachers are:

• Basic understanding of English. Our programs and course materials are in English (global business English).
• Able to arrange a quiet space (such as a classroom or library) to supervise students during the virtual program(s). Note: The Project Global Citizen Bootcamp (The UN Environmental Challenge) is a 3 hour program with a short 15 minute break in the middle. 
• Able to supervise your students in person throughout the duration of the live facilitated program(s).

• Commit to filling all the student spots allocated to your school. You will be responsible for selecting suitable students from your school, arranging for them to self-register into the program (it’s an easy online process), and ensuring that they physically attend the sessions. Note: If a student is unable to attend the first day of their program, you may substitute their allocated spot with another student from your school. However, only students who attend the first day of the 4-week program are permitted to continue with the program. No further substitutions will be allowed, and the non-attending student's placement into the program will be automatically cancelled.

• No subject matter expertise is required of supervising teachers, as our qualified intercultural facilitators will engage directly with the students. However, you may also wish to provide additional help to your students during the class, and also in between classes if you think this will be beneficial.

We provide all supervising teachers with:

• Logistical instructions for setting up your classroom, instructions for registering your students into our online digital learning platform, and other instructions to provide to your students. Note: Each student will require their own laptop, computer, or tablet. We do not allow students to share screens.
• Access to the virtual meetings (hosted on the Zoom platform) and also to our online learning platform where students do their coursework. In other words, you will see exactly what your students see.
• Access to additional teaching resources in case you wish to provide extension work for your students or embed elements of our programs into your own class work. However, it is not a requirement that you provide additional support or work for students.

Students must be pre-approved and invited by their school to participate in our programs and supervised at all times by a teacher.

The requirements for students are:

• Years 10-12 (or equivalent).
• Basic understanding of English. Our programs and course materials are in English (global business English).
• Commitment to participate in the entire program. Note: The Project Global Citizen Bootcamp (The UN Environmental Challenge) is a 3 hour program with a short 15 minute break in the middle. The Project Global Citizen 4-Week Challenge (The Earthshot Prize Pitch) is a weekly 1-hour program held over four consecutive weeks. If you are unable to attend the first lesson of the 4-Week Challenge, you will no longer have access to the remainder of the program.
• Access to a laptop, computer, or tablet, with a good Wi-Fi connection. We generally do not allow students to share screens, but we understand in some schools you may need to share screens.
• Camera must be turned on at all times, but we understand in some schools this may not be possible due to your Wi-Fi connection.
• Headset (to block out noise from others in your class) and a microphone (you will be speaking with program participants from around the world).
• Cultural curiosity i.e. a willingness to learn about cultures from around the world and to share your own personal experiences with others.
• Respectful and professional behaviour at all times. Remember, this is a program about global citizenship and global employability. You are cultural ambassadors for your school and for your country.

• Students (and their supervising teachers) can self-assess their progress on the Scale of Cultural Intelligence which we explain during the program.
• Supervising teachers can also track their students’ progress through our online learning platform. Note: We provide supervising teachers with access to the virtual meetings (hosted on the Zoom platform) and also to our online digital learning platform where students do their coursework.
• There are no compulsory assessments required of students, just a willingness to actively engage in the program and demonstrate cultural curiosity.

Yes! This program is all about cross-cultural collaboration.

• Each virtual class will have a mix of Australian and overseas students from different schools.

• Furthermore, participants in each virtual class will be grouped into small teams comprising a mix of Australian and overseas students.
• Each team will go through the same process that happens when collaborating on international projects in the corporate world. While solving the project challenge we will reveal during the class, team members need to learn how to trust one another, respectfully engage in unfiltered conflict, commit to decisions and actions, hold one another accountable, and focus on achieving the collective results of their team. In other words, students need to learn how to think and behave as global citizens, with cultural intelligence!

Here are the ways students will connect and collaborate with each other:

• Via Zoom and Zoom breakout rooms during the virtual class sessions.
• Via our Project Global Citizen online learning platform during the virtual class sessions.

For privacy and safety reasons, we do not facilitate, encourage, or require out-of-class engagement.

However, supervising teachers may choose to allow their students to exchange email addresses with their virtual team mates from around the world so that students can continue to collaborate with each other.

If teachers allow that, it is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that student-to-student communication is safe and professional. We have already had some fantastic long-term friendships created between students from Australia and Indonesia since our Term 1 programs in 2023.

The participants' learning goals are to:

• Increase their own knowledge of culturally motivated behaviour and cross-cultural communication.
• Expand their mindset as a global citizen to consider other people's behaviour via a cultural lens.
• Establish relationships with other students from other schools, both locally and internationally, through peer-to-peer learning.
• Recognise how situational stress affects behaviour and cognition.
• Anticipate and co-create tactics for working with people whose behaviour is influenced by diverse cultures.
• Develop into truly global citizens and leaders who view diversity as an untapped resource to be embraced rather than a challenge to be overcome.
